When Lady Arianda said there was a difference between porn and erotica, I began to think how to explain that difference to someone who might not know or see that these are two separate things. There are certainly folks for whom that line is not clearly visible.

I searched thru several resources and even my great granny's journals for my explanation of porn and erotica. And for what it's worth, here it is:

Porn is in your face sex with a big attitude and little to no feelings or emotions involved. It's the use of vulgar and often modern day terms for men and women's genitalia as well as the act of having sex. There are no touchy-feely type words here but wham bam, thank you ma'am terminology. It is blatant with nothing left to one's imagination.

Erotica, on the other hand, is soft, creative and has much to do with feelings and emotions. Descriptive terms for men and women's most private parts are often ancient, archaic and old-fashioned, allowing the reader's imagination to take hold and create a picture in their mind that is unique to them even though millions might read the same passage. The most intimate act between a man and a woman may be called just that or perhaps a joining of bodies, souls and minds. It is not usually referred to as sex.

Erotica is silk, softly caressing the skin, while Porn is nothing more than burlap scratching an itch. Erotica is intimacy which has everything to do with feeling and emotion. Porn is just sex.
