Circe's Beastiary
Circe (sir-see), whose name means falcon, was a sorceress daughter of the sun god Helios and the sea nymph Perse. She lived on an island, where with potions and incantations, she was able to turn people into beasts. Her victims retained their reason, however, and knew what had happened to them.
In the course of his wanderings, the Greek hero Odysseus visited Circe's island with his companions, whom she turned into swine. On his way to find help for his men, Odysseus met the god Hermes, from whom he received an herb (Moly) that made him immune to Circe's enchantments. Thus armed, he forced her to restore his companions to human form. In amazement that anyone could resist her spell, Circe fell in love with Odysseus.
In honor of the sorceress, this Beastiary contains many fine creatures, both lovely and mayhaps perilous. One may not know if each was always thus or was once in possession of a complete form, human or animal. Most are here of their own choosing and serve in gratitude, for they are welcomed at Double Moon, unlike most places they have encountered. Guard you well, traveler. What you may see, what you may do... or what may be done if you venture here, is possibly beyond your sensibilities.
